Dental Cleaning
After the COHAT and At Home Care
Post-operative phone call-The day after the COHAT, we will call to check in on your pet. If there are any concerns, we will address them to be sure your pet is doing well.

Post-operative Recheck- If extractions were performed, we will recheck the mouth approximately 3 days post op. We will verify that the sutures used to close the gum flaps are intact. At this visit, we will also discuss recommendations for at home dental care

Home Care-Home care is an essential part of oral healthcare. You can make a great impact on your pet’s oral health by implementing an at home dental care plan. A thorough at home dental care regimen typically means less frequent dental procedures under anesthesia. Tooth brushing with a dog safe toothpaste is the best option, and we encourage you to do so daily if you can. If this is not possible, there are many other products you can use. There are dental foods (T/D), dental chews, gels, water additives, and treats all designed to help slow down plaque and tartar formation. When purchasing products, look for a VOHC seal (Veterinary Oral Health Council), as this seal means that there is scientific evidence that the product works.

6 month follow up appointment- 6 months after your pet’s COHAT, we will have you return for a complimentary recheck appointment with a technician. The technician will look in your pet’s mouth to see how well your pet is doing with home care. If you have concerns, or adjustments need to be made about your at home regimen, we will address these at this visit.
