Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy can work wonders for an arthritic pet. Many forms of therapy can be done at home with proper instruction. You should visit your veterinarian to have your pet evaluated for physical therapy before beginning. Modalities include:
Water Therapy
Water therapy, such as swimming or using an underwater treadmill, is a great low impact way to help a pet with arthritis get some quality exercise. The resistance of the water also provides strength training. (Referral to outside clinic)
Range of Motion
Range of Motion exercises are simple stretches to keep your pet’s joints flexible and moving, which helps with strength and mobility. (Referral to outside clinic)
Massage
Massage is used to ease pain and help restore blood flow to your pet's painful joints. (Referral to outside clinic)
The Assisi Loop
The Assisi Loop uses targeted Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (tPEMF) to deliver a microcurrent that targets the body’s own natural anti-inflammatory process. A tiny electrical signal is deposited to the tissue in a way that mimics physiological stimulus that normally occurs in healthy tissue, thus stimulating cellular repair. Therapy
Laser therapy is a novel therapeutic option for a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. The therapy allows us to stimulate the body’s inherent healing mechanisms to reduce pain and accelerate healing in a wide range of conditions. Laser therapy is also a useful adjunct treatment for patients who are currently receiving medication for chronic degenerative joint conditions. Few contraindications for this treatment exist and few if any side effects can be expected from the use of this therapy.

At North Scottsdale Animal Hospital, we have partnered with the K-laser Company to provide laser therapy using their state-of-the-art K-Cube 4 laser. The device allows us to administer the treatment in just a few minutes without restraint or sedation. Furthermore, the laser therapy is non-painful and can be administered to even the hairiest dog or cat.
